“In the face of death, the Church confidently proclaims that God has created each person for Eternal Life, and that Jesus, the Son of God, by his own death and resurrection, has broken the chains of sin and death that bound humanity.” (Order of Christian Funerals #1) The process of buring a loved one is always difficult, but according to the Catholic Rites it can also be comforting and healing.
Catholic Funeral Rites include:
1. The Vigil or Wake Service at the Funeral Home
2. The Funeral Mass at Church
3. The Commital Service at the Cemetery
- ALL human remains MUST be interred in a grave or tomb.

STEPS to take after a loved one has died:
1. If there is not a medical professional present at the time of death, call 9-1-1 to obtain a legal proclamation of death.
2. Call the Funeral Home so that they can care for the body.
3. Make ALL arrangements with the Funeral Home - they will notify the parish church where you wish to have the Funeral Mass.
4. Plan the Funeral Liturgy with a priest or deacon.

The Church allows cremated remains to be present in an urn at the Mass. Cremated remains should NOT be kept as personal property or scattered anywhere, but rather ALWAYS interred.
